Characters by Disney/ Square Enix

My last video completed at my current apartment.
It's time I finish this darn thing, it's been 2 years since the last part or something. Sigh.
It really sucks to be working on a project written about 5 years ago since I've outgrown the style, but I hate to just abondon it now too, so yeah.

Made this music video prematurely mostly to practise drawing Ventus/ Terra/ Aqua right out of the gate, I always have a tendecy to draw them more detailed and variedly colored at the beginning, then as the animation goes along they slowly deginerate into a more Rogeresque design that's more comfortable to me. Figured a music video where they constantly appear in would speed up that process.

"I'll make a man out of you", first time I used an official non remix song from an actual Disney movie. Altough I did speed it up to give it the faster beat it needs. These things are supposed to be hyper, after all.
And why yes, this includes a shot of poor Mc Leach falling of the waterfall again. I didn't even intend it to become such a tradition, for some reason whenever I'm visualizing the lyrics in my head, there will always be a moment where I need someone to fall off a waterfall.
Altough in hindsight I could have used Saluk's death from Aladdin prince of thieves as an alternative here. Ah well...

As always, great work.

I love how you included so many Disney characters in it (especially love Darkwing Duck).

And I love the non-hairy chests of the KH boys, too. :D

No, I just throw everything Disney related in those music video's, in fact I often focus on the ones who didn't make it in.
Pixar has never been featured in Kingdom Hearts yet. Buzz Lightyear and Woody where almost created as summons in Birth by sleep but taken out for some reason. And the only Disney worlds in Birth by sleep where Snow white, Cinderella, sleeping Beauty, Disney town (Basically old Mickey Mouse cartoons combined with Disney world) Peter pan, Lilo and Stitch and Hercules.

Well. That was weird, but I appreciated all the references and jokes. I don't think I've ever understood these kingdumb hearts videos, but I don't understand the games either so it's fitting.

Man, I have no interest in the KH series anymore, aside from a temptation to play the first one again. But I'm still interested in finding out what KH3 is like. I want to see what Disney worlds it has! Frozen is practically guaranteed, but I want to see the other choices. Will it do anything with Wreck-it Ralph? I really want this! Aaugh! (and I'm not expecting something like Sonic popping up, though that would be quite surreal)

Dislike is a big word, but it's fascinating to be baffled by it.
It's so weird to use Disney as a platform to completely abondon any laws of story telling and go on a weird abstract surreal trip trying to be smart over nothing, deconstructing themes that were never even there.
Madness.

Yeah.... You're right! and it's even weirder considering than disney is very good at keeping a nice story/ plot structure to keep it simple for kids but having subtlety for the adults!
For me, it's seem than the story can be the same if the didn't use Disney Characters but original characters insteed!
Spoony said it in one of his test: the names and designs are here but not really the atmostphere and personalities.....
also, the disney characters are almost USELESS in this games! It's more focused on the FF characters or the original characters so what's the point of using Disney IF YOU DONT REALLY USE IT?!!!!!!!

Definitly.
I'm mostly annoyed most disny characters enver interact with each otehr outside their own worlds.
That's why I love House of the Mouse much more as a Disney cross over, all Disney characters are constantly playing off against each other rather then just being stuck on rails with a watered down version of their movie's story.

I think the point of having it crossovered with Disney is so the player can enjoy being an actual part of his/her childhood movie this time around.

Of course, that point gets completly crashed when the player can't emphasize with Sora, but that's a different matter.

I mostly enjoy Kingdom Hearts stories for their characters, but it is true that it's somewhat reflections on it's own religion can get really stupid, I still don't understand how people say the story is too complex thought, I find it pretty easy to understand... Sometimes stupid, but easy to understand.

The thing with kingdom hearts is that it's a very easy story told in a very complex way.
Only when you turn off your brain and just follow the flow it's very easy, but if you actually start asking what they actually mean and what  the characters are doing outside of their plot purposes you fall into a huge void.

Hmm... I guess that's your way to say "If you think about the plotholes"

I normally just explain that by saying it's their worl... uhh.... Universe...

It's different from ours, and works with some strange settings (Instead of punmping their blood, their Hearts just keep them away from Darkness... Ok... What pumps their blood then? Do they even bleed? I haven't seen any piece of blood so far on the series so... Maybe not... Maybe they work with light instead of darkness... Maybe they are like plants, but instead of starve to death when they don't have any more light, they just mutate into creatures that try to eat hearts for some odd reason...) And also give importance to things we wouldn't (Like... You know... Light and darkness... Are we sure they aren't plants again? No seriously, we didn't saw them eat anything either! So they must be! Ok ,they did eat Seasalt Icecream, but by the sound of it it looks like it's an icecream made just of water with salt and sugar... and plants feed on water too so...)

So yeah, althought the story isn't hard... I guess their worl... I mean... Universe! (Goddamnit! Stupid gimmick!) can be a little bit... In fact I usually ignore how their Univer... I mean World... No wait, I had it right.... Works and just watch how this characters interact with each other.

And I guess they are trying to be smart by questioning their universe just like we do ours, but we don't live in their world, so since their phylosofies can't be applied to us, we can't really care that much...

Not just plotholes.
Just....Everything.
The thing is, Kingdom Hearts is entirely designed to be lkik a dream and my brain can't think like a Dream.
I want to BE Sora and explore the disney worlds, but more so then any game I ever saw before, there's only a surface level.
Any attempt to look beyond the surface ends in a void. You need to be religious minded. Keep focus on Sora. Everything resolves around him, nothing exists beyond him.

Kingdom hearts has this NASTY tendecy of deliberetly confusing you.
Okay, Kingdom Hearts 1, remember the opening?
You're on a island in teh middle of the ocean, no sense of civilization. There'so nly kids and some wood and rotten buildings.
Sora Kairi and Riku start talking. Hey, where did you used to come from? I used to live on a very far away place. I hate being stuck on this island. Let's escape!
So they find food and build a raft, clumsy but hey, they got to escape this island right?

So, AM I a complete stupid idiot for thinking at this point that Sora and the otherk ids are victims of a ship wreck or something? I swear that's what I tought, there's no sign of civilization and everyone talks like they're stuck on that island for ages and desperately want to escape.

Yet suddenly ,for 10 seconds, BAM, SOra is in a real bedroom and we har his mother talkign in the kitchen? What? Where the heck does that come from? What? Is this a dream, a flashback? What?
But otherwise the scene makes sense in context, Sora sees a storm coming and rows back to the island and when we're back at "shipwreck island", jup, Sora totally rowwed there on a boat.
So for years I was completely confused about this.
Until in Kingdom hearts 2 we actualy see there's an actual second and larger island with a modern city on it close by "shipwreck island".
But Kingdom hearts 1 never gave us that establishing shot, only that One single confusing 10 second clip that doesn't fit with all the information we've been given first.

You're probably saying "well, who cares, this is irrelevant".
Jup. That's the worse part. This is the beginning, just a set up. Even just a simple set up of who Sora is before the story starts is told in a very confusing manner.
It's completely irrelevant and not important. Very simple.
Sora lives in a normal city and plays with his friends on a nearby island. Simple. But told in an extremely confusing manner.
That's what ingdom hearts loves to do. It gives you vague details, amking you jump to conclusions just to fill in the holes of what happened and then suddenly pulling the rug out under you and revealing it was diffrent.
FOR NO REASON. This was not a relevant mystery.
It's a set up. It's a mystery story but even teh set up and simple details of who the character is are deliberetly turned into strange surreal mysteries.
And because even simple and irrelevant information is already so confusing, I'm already on quicksand when the REAL mystery and plottwists start to happen.
It's quicksand on top of quicksand on top of quicksand.

A simple story but my god, before I even get the luxery of having a solid foundation of who Sora is, I'm already weary and tired and confused.
Kingdom Hearts works when you follow it like a dream, just hop from plot point to plotpoint but if you put ANY effort in trying to understand who cahracters are beyond their function as a videogame element, or try to udnerstand how the world functions beyond being a backdrop for fighting enemies, your brain explodes.

Like, Traverse town for example. It's a place of Refuge, it only exists when people need it. But... It's a city... Right?
I see houses, shops. But  I don't see people. Sure, there's a few specific parts of Disney world there, Merlin's cave, Dalmation's house.
BUt they aren't part of Traverse town itself, just parts of their original world mended into it.
But traverse town itself has things of it's own, the clothing shop and a weird Hotel without an entrance or any sign of owner, just hotel rooms.
But no people, no sign of things living there.
And Traverse town stops existing when nobody needs it anymore. But it's a city. So do people who live there als cease to exist. Or do people even live in Traverse town? It behaves like a abstract idea, a fairytale piece of envirement, like a magical rock. It only makes sense as a abstract idea of a magical envirement that only exists for a specific purpose, yet it looks like a city that's supposed to have a history, people, a life beyond just it's purpose for Sora. It conflicts and confuses my brain.

The scale of everything, the artificial and surreal nature, that I'm never in a real world but always in very specific sections with very specific characters.
It's hard to explain, but everything feels off. Yet the game keeps demanding me to care and be invested in this artificial world where nothing is real and nothing has consequences.
A stage show where characters give Sora specific information and then cease to exist and have no life or meaning  beyond their interaction with Sora.

You constantly get surreal moments like where the dance ball for the prince in cinderella is compeltely deserted or the arena of Hercules is empty, yet you hear empty seats cheering. Am I suppose to imagine people?
You probably dismiss it as a technical thing, the animators of Kingom Hearts were too lazy to create 500 unique disney crowd people, but the thing is... I feel it's supposed to be surreal because everything else has this same deliberetly confusing sense of surrealness.

You either need to be religious/ spiritual minded or really turn your brain off otherwise it's a nightmarish surreal puzzle of madness.

Well, apparently Disney doesn't want their characters to cross-over into other worlds in order to stay "true to the story". Nomura said that is the reason you can't get permanent new party members except for Goofy & Donald. So the makers of KH aren't really to blame here.
