Oh my, you had me worried for a moment with the title and how this started. Whew!
As for the new Sonic game coming out, that either makes me really excited or really nervous. Seeing as how the stories are going now...let's just say the stories are boring me to tears. I looked up the writers who wrote Sonic Colors and Generations and I found that they wrote for cheesy kids shows. Great, Sonic's been reduced to a cheesy kids game.
Don't get me wrong, I know Sonic is a kid's genre and there are certain things you don't do out of common sense. Also, there's nothing wrong with simple stories. But at least the past games had depth and I was really caring for the characters. Now, I'm annoyed with Sonic, frustrated at Tails, and upset that the other characters aren't getting the screen time (or proper praise) they deserve. I still love the franchise, I love it to death, but oh my, this is really starting to get under my skin. If it's another Sonic Colors game that's coming out, I'm going to scream!
But if it's a really good game then I'll give it a chance. But I'm not holding my breath.
Well, Garren and Ken Pontac are mostly known for their contributions to violent shows/ games like Happy tree friends and Mad world.
Problem is, in those shows/ videogame, they're cheesy lame jokes worked in combination with the gruesome violence, because of the contrast. However, with the violence removed, they still use the same humor, which is now half the joke, or even less.
It's like asking Trey Parker and Matt Stone to make a show like Southpark but remove all the violence/ sex/ satire. You're left with nothing. Which is exactually what I think of the sonic color's guys writing style, nothing.
Oh, I must've gotten them mixed up with someone else then.
I think the problem with Sonic is that the franchise has such diversity that it's getting harder to find a grove for it story wise. We've seen Sonic go all over the place and that's what makes it difficult to find a good story with both action and comic relief.
Or who knows? Maybe those cheesy games in the past were all part of a plan to get Sonic back on track. Maybe they were just using them to adjust the gameplay and have bigger plans in mind. But that's just me being optimistic, we'll just have to wait and see.
Well, who knows what might happen in the future. We'll just have to wait and see.
I guess the thing that annoys me the most is that people are now more focused on how the gameplay should go that they completely discard whether the story is good or not and recently the story has been...ugh. I'm the type of gamer that plays for the story, not entirely the gameplay.
Everyone gets busy, 70% understand. (20% are just plain mean and 10% percent are trolls(Or is it the other way around...) Take your time, and try and get robotnick to turn ya back into a human eh ? Speaking of new games, I'd love to hear your thought on the new pokemon x and y games. Just a request don't feel an pressure to do it, I just enjoy your reviews. Keep us posted on the sonic game too if ya can. (Rant mode engaged) While I doubt they will be able to please the fans, as long as the plot is fair, the graphics are fair, and it allows me to run through the level laughing maniacally as I test my luck with every jump.(I didn't play much sonic when I was little, most I got was playing as tails or occasinally playing my myself and running like mad to the end of the level, grinning at ever little obsticle I narrowly avoided. I will admit I haven't gotten generations yet, but I did play colours and barring the plot, the colours and the STUPID FREAKING WISPS THAT MADE ME PAUSE IN MY RUNNING I might have actually enjoyed it a more. I played Prototye after finally giving into this guy who gave it a good review on utube, and the plot intrigued me, so I bought it on sale. It began with you just jumping striaght into everything and having to, well it seemed at the time but in truth it did give you instructions and make you paused before you could continue, learn things as you went while fighting the enemies around. It was insane! I had no idea what was going on and I died once or twice just on the tutorial but it was so much fun. Just being pushed off a cliff like that, I don't know why but I enjoyed it imensely. At the end of the day if I didn't feel like doing the plot I could just punch someone and run away from the 'bad guys' laughing as they tried to catch me in this big game of chicken, it was so much fun! I don't remember much of sonic as a kid, I didn't get many chances to play it. But all I want from my sonic game is what sonic is known for. Not the plot, not the power ups, but the running through the level, one wrong jump making me fall down a pit and lose a life. Prototype brought something I haven't experienced in a while, barring assasins creed because it's more 'stealth' then carnage based(They are similar, but so different if that makes any sense). What can I say, I don't know what it is I want from sega, but I know if, maybe when, they finally get it right, I'll be able to enjoy sonic once more. Take the werehog game, my favorite levels were the day ones, it was just running ducking dodging and defeating the eggman. And then the ending came...It wasn't bad I guess but I just didn't feel it. I don't know how to express what I want from sonic, because I don't know what it is I want, but I know it has something to do with what Prototype had, and the werehog one, and colours only touched on. Yes I know, Prototype is baes on an open world, there'es more freedom but that's not what I like most about that game. ARGH does any of this make sense? I know what I want but I don't know what it is!
Can't say much about Pokemon. While I did get hooked on the cartoon for a while, I've never been into the games. It looks neat, I like the more 3d perspective. I hope the locations get a more natural feel to them, as the previous games always look kind of awwkward and square-y to me, and envirements are hugely important to me in RPG's, altough BLack and White occasionally had some "Oh, that looks cool" moments like the highway overhang.
So Pokemon X/Y will probably have more oppurtunty and freedom to do neat things with the envirement, and therefore will have the largest chance any Pokemon game had so far too interest me, but I'm waiting some more first. Hate to sound like a graphic whore, but yeah. Story and exploring fun locations are vital for my RPG's and I don't expect much from the story department.
As for your ranting, I feel your pain. I'll talk in detail about Sonic Colors in the next/ a future Dissected. But the gist of it is this: Sonic Colors indeed doesn't feel like a Sonic game. The 3d segments are almost pointless after world 2 and they're the only bits where we get Sonic running and doing cool things. The 2d segments barely have any big chunks of land with slopes and loops, they're mostly weird abstract Block puzzle segments where you need to do weird abstract things with your wisps to manipulating blocks to do other block things. It seems more like a weird Mario puzzle game to me then a Sonic game.
So I can imagine your experience, as I had the same, when you come in expecting Sonic to be running and flying and doing action stuff, while you spend most of the time just pushing around blocks and looking for power ups to get past obstacles like it's a Zelda game or something.
I lost interest after platinum, mainly because the new games just didn't interest me, guess I grew up. Still, maybe they'll bring something new that will interest me, the graphics will be nice but bw bw2 just felt so...slow. I know it's a childrens game but I found no enjoyment in those games. The story felt forced, I don't know how else to describe it. And I couldn't help but cry out finally in fustration when it was over. If x and y can give me something to keep the story fresh and new, something for the older players, maybe a little more freedom, I'll be happy.
I'm glad you understand what I mean, because I can't pull up the words to dscribe it, I can onyl feel it and try to describe it. The intro was fast paced, full of explosions, and if I admit it, I wanted to see more, and then the first level and...*sigh*
Zelda works because it's zelda Mario works because it's mario Sonic isn't working because IT'S NOT SONIC well it is but ARGH.
People have standards about a game, they want to be wowed but you can't pull the rug out from them. Pokemon for example wouldn't be pokemon without the battles, or the pokemon, or the gyms, or the contests, or the breeding. Those things are in ever majour title. I understand wanting to keep it fresh, but if you pull out the ground rules, all your left with is the remins of the tower that once stood there.
I didn't grow up with sonic as much as I wanted to. I want to get to know sonic, but sega keeps failing me and it just fustrates me because I want a piece of the chocolate and they gave me a carrot instead! I want to be a games designer, I AM going to be a games designer. I want to create things that people will look at and enjoy as much as games have always brought me enjoyment. But each time I look to a sonic game for something, a lot of games actually, that I don't have in my limited colection of games, and spend my megre money on getting it, I don't feel that satisfaction. I want to make the chocolate! I want to give it to people! Why do they keep playing it safe in all the wrong directions! I don't want gluten free! I want the best chcocolate my money can buy! I want to give people the best chocolate for their money! WHY IS IT SO HARD SEGA to just give us something to hold onto, some proof you still want to give out chocolate.
It fustrates me, and I have nothing to hold onto that can help me hold onto the hope that one day sega will finally get it right again. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WANT ARGH. It hurts my head because I know how hard it is to make a quality game, how hard it is to put everything you want in there, how hard it is to weave a good story, I don't want to rage like 90% of people do. But I can't just ignore what I want! Paitence only gets so far before cracks begin to appear, I just want a game. I want something fun, and sega isn't giving it to me. ARGH I don't know how else to explain it! I guess the point of the matter is I don't want to see a childhood icon vanish into obscurity. No it's not that either. Do you know what I mean because I can't seem to get it into the right words.
? Well, SOnic generations did a good job making a proper Sonic game. Bit on the easy side and short, but that's how i like em anyway, don't have time to invest 60 hours in a game when I have animations and 200 other games to play.
Heh, at least it wasn't heart transplant surgery like I tried with this simulator. [link] I am curious to know what this new sonic game will be like & what bizarre gimmick they're gonna give him or what annoying companion they're going to give him. & whether it'll be multiplatform or Wii U exclusive. Good Job Rog & good luck with the move.
